Like many medicinal herbs, Marigold (Calendula officinalis) has a broad range of effects especially in the treatment of skin disorders. It has bactericidal, antifungal, antiparasitic, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory activities. Due to presence of triterpenoid asters in the petals and pollen it shows anti-inflammatory effects. The marigold is also able to help in the treatment of wounds. It is excellent in healing burns, stings and impetigo (a contagious skin infection.) It is wonderful in the treatment of warts, corns and calluses. The flowers are also used in the treatment of many skin conditions from eczema to varicose ulcers. It has also been used to treat cramps, coughs, and snake bites. Calendula has a high content of flavonoids, chemicals that act as anti-oxidants in the body. Anti-oxidants are thought to protect body cells from damage caused by a chemical process called oxidation. Oxidation produces oxygen free radicals, natural chemicals that may suppress immune function. Calendula contains chemicals, which have been shown in animal studies to speed up wound-healing by several actions that include increasing blood flow to the affected area and promoting the production of collagen proteins. One of the medicinal uses of marigolds is that it promotes the growth of both new blood vessels as well as new skin tissue and hence it is used in the healing of wounds such as burns, scrapes as well as irritated skin.

  Dosage & Administration 

  Apply topically to the affected area 2-3 times daily, or as directed by the Physician.
